Connie Hurley

DVM, DACVS-SAVeterinary Surgeon

Dr. Hurley completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 1998. In 1999, she completed an internship, and in 2001 completed her residency, American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP), at Mesa Veterinary Hospital in Mesa, Arizona. Dr. Hurley completed a surgical internship in 2002 with Surgical Referral Services in Chicago, Il. She then completed a residency there as well in 2006. Dr. Hurley has been providing surgical services at WVRC since 2006, and in 2012, she became board certified from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

On what she enjoys most about working at WVRC…“I’d have to say I’m one of the few people that decided to become a veterinarian at the age of 7 and never considered anything else. I’ve been an animal lover from day one. My mother has the stereotypical photograph of a 2-year-old baby Hurley carrying the cat taller than me by its front limbs and neck. At the age of 7, they got me a puppy. Tragically, that puppy almost immediately went behind a couch, chewed a cord, and electrocuted itself. My memory of the event was taking the puppy to the veterinarian in very bad shape and having the puppy not come home. My child’s mind transformed this to a desire to grow up to be a veterinarian, who could help animals and maybe save some little girl’s puppy. I know that my puppy back then was not able to be saved, but I like to think a tragic event resulted in some good for other animals.”

Professional Interests:

“My strengths in general revolve around creative/artistic thinking, spacial relations, and visual information, which makes surgery the perfect specialty for me. I have the opportunity to repair and improve patients using my hands, and I enjoy the mental challenge of devising a solution where no apparent solution exists or in working through all options to select the best fit for the problem I’m presented with. I greatly enjoy what I do and feel it’s the best fit for my personality and abilities. I love the chance to make that tremendous difference to my patients and their owners.”

Dr. Hurley’s professional interests include cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, growth and limb deformities, and cranial cruciate disease.
