Dr. Alexandra Hoff is originally from Portland, Oregon and attended Oregon State University for her undergraduate degree and veterinary school. She then completed a 1-year Small Animal Internal Medicine and Surgery Internship at Oklahoma State University before coming to WVRC. Her main areas of interest include trauma, emergency surgery, and toxicities. Dr. Hoff is also very passionate about making the veterinary visit as stress-free as possible for both patients and their owners, and has been fear-free certified for the past 2 years.
Dr. Hoff grew up showjumping horses and trail riding as much as possible. The time spent with horses is what first inspired her to become a veterinarian. She still owns a horse named Joey who currently lives back in Oregon. She also has 3 cats named Lydia, Chacon, and Stone and 1 dog named Val. Stone and Val were adopted last year during her previous internship, and Val earned her name because she was adopted on Valentine’s Day.
Growing up, she also spent a lot of time outdoors doing various activities including skiing, hiking, camping, water sports at the lake, and spending time at the beach. Spending time outdoors with Val is one of her favorite things to do, and is very excited to explore all of the wonderful things Wisconsin has to offer.
She is very passionate about traveling and has spent time volunteering on a conservation project in Africa and volunteering at a spay/neuter clinic in Costa Rica. Providing veterinary care to underserved communities, especially internationally, is something Dr. Hoff really enjoys doing and plans to continue throughout her career. In vet school, she spent 4 weeks doing rotations at a veterinary college in Bangalore, India. Other memorable trips include traveling to Ireland to study the horse sport industry and a 3-day back country backpacking trip in Banff, Alberta.
